Since many people on here use skype, there's a quite useful program called SAM (Skype Answering Machine) which lets people leave voice messages when you are not at the computer to take their skype calls. it's at http://www.freewebs.com/skypeansweringmachine/index.htm

I wonder if this is the same thing as the skype voice mail thingy. If only skype was accessible to dial upers.

Skype is accessible to those who are on dialup. I am, and I use it, though it's not as great as it would be on high speed. Thanks for that answering machine thing...i'm gonna check it out.

Reads Dots how were you able to get the thing working? I mean I was breaking up pretty bad when I used it.

No, it's not the same as skype voicemail. Skype voicemail costs extra and I believe it can take calls even when you are not signed in. This answering machine will only take calls when you have logged in to skype. It's very accessible.

That program was the one that led me to uninstall Skype. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get Skype to understand that that program was there.

Well, I had a similar problem, but didn't mention it because I thought it was a problem only I was having because I talked to others who could use the programme just fine. Before you can install SAM you'll have to close skype. When you're done open skype again, and a message should appear asking if sam should be allowed to access skype. With the skype version the scripts work with, i could read this dialogue box, but couldn't find the OK button, so couldn't tell skype to accept sam... Well, I installed the latest skype version, found the OK button, uninstalled the new version and reinstalled my old skype again, and now the answering machine works just fine. That may be a bit of a hastle, but I guess that depends on how much you would like this answering machine feature... Hope those who want it will manage to set it up...

I don't know how i got it to work so well. Sometimes I'm choppy, but it's not that bad.
